Midway upon the journey of our life.
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightf orward pathway had been lost.
Dante Alighieri ‘Inferno, Canto I’
“La Double Vie de Véronique” is an inti mate tale of internal batt les we wage during the journey of life. I draw inspirati on from both my own experiences and the fascinati on with Krzysztof Kieślowski’s fi lm ” La Double Vie de Véronique.”
Red lines, like threads of emoti ons, depicti ng feelings, inti macy, and love, fl ow from the beginning in a shared directi on. It’s a moment of unity, a symbol of elusive connecti on with one’s inner self.
The next image takes us to a moment where the protagonist seems torn in two opposite directi ons by forces beyond the frame. We see how emoti ons tear her apart, she loses certainty of the path, and the red threads remind her of the ti es that connect her with other people.
The last picture shows a girl sitti ng exhausted on the edge of the bathtub. It’s a moment of resignati on, where life’s diffi culti es seem to triumph, yet at the same ti me, a reference to symbolic threads in Kieślowski’s fi lm, where characters also experienc e similar torn feelings and surrender to fate.
“La Double Vie de Véronique” is a refl ecti on on human emoti ons, internal confl icts, and the challenges during the journey of life. It aims to inspire an understanding of one’s own journey and the strength found in self-acceptance, using the metaphor of red threads and symbolic tears between external forces.
